The leaf blade is dark green, turning almost black in winter. disease<\/span><\/h2><p>Ivy is virtually disease-free, especially when grown outdoors on vertical supports. Indoors, or as ground cover in damp conditions, diseases such as black spot can sometimes occur.<\/p><p><strong>Causes<\/strong> :<\/p><p>This disease is caused by a fungus (Phyllosticta hedericola). It mainly affects\u00a0<em>Hedera colchica, <\/em>but can also be found on<em> Hedera helix.<\/em><\/p><p><strong>Symptoms<\/strong> :<\/p><p>Symptoms take the form of circular reddish patches, which turn greyish as they dry out, resembling a crust and measuring between 5 and 15 mm in diameter. Small black spots can then be seen in the centre of the spots. A yellow halo may surround the spot.<\/p><p><b>Treatment <\/b>:<\/p><p>As a preventive measure, ensure good air ventilation around the ivy and avoid watering the foliage. Destroy affected leaves by burning them.
